European Money Week aims to enrich the financial literacy of children and young people and to give them more information about the way banks and financial institutions function.
Banks in Bulgaria have joined various initiatives to increase the financial literacy of children and young people. The campaign was part of the European Money Week, which this year took place between 17 and 21 March.
European Money Week aims to raise public awareness on financial education and financial literacy issues through various initiatives for children and young people, both at national and European level. Over 30 countries are participating in the campaign and in the long term it aims to improve financial education in Europe, in particular for students in primary and secondary schools.
At the local level, banks in Bulgaria traditionally take an active part in the European Money Week, as among their main priorities are increasing financial culture and education.
The planned initiatives aim to encourage and foster in children an interest in entrepreneurship, responsibility towards money and skills for long-term planning and management of personal and family budgets. The activities include open lessons, interactive games and performances, visits to bank branches, where students have the opportunity to get acquainted with the daily work of employees of financial institutions, as well as organizing competitions and quizzes through which children can acquire financial knowledge in a fun and entertaining way.
ABB Launches the European Money Quiz at the National Level
As part of the European Money Week, which is traditionally held in March, the national final of the European Money Quiz took place. It is an initiative of the European Banking Association to promote financial literacy among high school students and is coordinated by the national banking associations in Europe.
In Bulgaria, the competition is organized by the Association of Banks in Bulgaria (ABB) with the strategic partnership of the Association of Economic Schools in Bulgaria (AIUB).
Over 100 students from the National Commercial and Banking High School, the National Financial and Economic High School, the Private Professional High School of Banking, Trade and Finance in Sofia, the National Commercial High School in Plovdiv and the Commercial High School in Burgas participated in the pilot edition of the European Money Quiz in Bulgaria. During the organization and finals of the competition,
representatives of UBB, Postbank, ProCredit Bank, Allianz Bank, Central Cooperative Bank and TBI Bank took active role in the process.
The national final was held online simultaneously in the five high schools, with students answering questions related to financial literacy, money and financial management. After an extremely competitive final, the winner was Lora Kirilova, and the second place was taken by Kristiyan Kostov, who managed to do it not only correctly, but also faster than all the other participants. Both are 9th grade students at the National Commercial and Banking High School. The Bulgarian finalists will compete with the winners from over 35 countries participating in this year’s edition of the European Money Quiz in Brussels on May 22 and 23.
UBB with a Special Financial Literacy Quiz
The questionnaire has been uploaded to the bank’s website in the section dedicated to European Money Week. It contains 32 questions of varying difficulty on different topics related to financial culture. The quiz was communicated with a special campaign on social media within four days, and for each of them was created a different key visual.
In addition, experts from UBB held meetings at universities with students during which they talked about topics related to financial literacy, improving overall knowledge about money, its management, the activities of banks, insurers, supplementary pension insurance companies, management companies, investment intermediaries, leasing companies, etc.
DSK Bank Actively Participated in European Money Week
During European Money Week 2025, DSK Bank actively participated in the initiative to increase financial literacy among adolescents with various online and offline activities. Over 45 educational lessons were organized and held in 34 schools across the country. The events combined the useful with the pleasant – the students learned important facts about the history and role of money, as well as good practices in managing personal finances.
Interesting content was prepared for digitally active youth – a special episode of the podcast “It’s Your Money”, as well as a survey/quiz about money among students at one of the leading universities in Sofia, whose answers were shared in video format on Instagram.
UniCredit Bulbank Organized Meetings Between Banking Experts and Students
As part of the overall financial literacy program of UniCredit Bulbank, educational meetings were organized between representatives of the bank and over 350 students from 14 cities in the country within the framework of the European Money Week. Branch directors and specialists from UniCredit Bulbank actively participated in the initiative, sharing their professional experience, as well as useful and practical information aimed at enriching the financial literacy of the younger generation and their families. They visited schools across the country, inspiring young people to be aware and confident in building their stable future. Over the past year, UniCredit Bulbank’s financial literacy program managed to reach over 4,000 students across the country and the initiative continues to grow in 2025.
Postbank – Active During European Money Week
During the European Money Week, Postbank launched a large-scale educational campaign to increase digital financial literacy in the country. The “Finance under Ctrl” project aims to guide users in the virtual space and the world of electronic payments, so that their online stay is as safe, convenient and enjoyable as possible, by showing them how to take care of the security of their personal data and funds, as well as teaching them to recognize various online frauds. For this purpose, the financial institution created the digital platform www.finansipodctrl.bg . There, users will have access to useful information and practical advice, presented in the form of an interactive game, which adds additional value to the experience and the way the material is learned.
The Bank also held open lessons on financial literacy at 145 Primary School “Simeon Radev” and at the National Financial and Economic High School, organized a webinar on “Investments for Beginners” together with Junior Achievement and took part in the first national edition of the European Money Quiz, organized by the Association of Banks in Bulgaria. Representatives of Postbank participated in the organization of the pilot event on site in two schools in Sofia and Burgas.
First Investment Bank Organized a Number of Activities Within the Framework of European Money Week
Within the framework of this year’s European Money Week, FIB organized meetings andinitiatives in schools in the country, aimed at improving the financial culture and education of children, in connection with early childhood financial literacy. Representatives of the bank visited a number of schools in the country, including the “Dr. Petar Beron” Primary School in Sofia, the Mathematics High School in Vratsa, the Commercial High School in Burgas, the “St. Kliment Ohridski” Primary School in Kyustendil, the “Yordan Zahariev” Primary School in Kyustendil, and the “Neofit Rilski” Primary School in Gabrovo. In addition, visits were organized for students from Burgas and Gabrovo to the bank’s offices, where the young people were introduced to the bank’s activities, the products and services offered, children’s debit cards and payments with a smart watch.
The bank also participated in a Professional Orientation Forum “What Should I Be When I Grow Up”, aimed at students in grades 7-12 and their parents, where the profession “banker” was presented and the students received valuable guidance for education and career advancement.
ProCredit Bank Supported ABB in Bulgaria’s First Participation in European Money Quiz
Experts from the bank visited the National Financial and Economic High School in Sofia and met with 8th and 9th grade students during their preparation stage of European Money Quiz – an initiative of the European Banking Federation, which aims to develop financial literacy among young people. The competition is part of the European Money Week, and this year Bulgaria is participating for the first time. ProCredit Bank took part in the organization of the pilot event and its representatives were on site at the schools during the national final of the competition.
Allianz Bank Bulgaria with a Branded Feature on Social Media
During European Money Week, the bank created a special branded feature – a series of publications on social media with highlights – the history of money, interesting facts, useful tips related to financial management, etc. In addition to it, internal communication was also conducted, aimed at the bank’s employees, the focus of which was interesting stories, intriguing facts and useful information related to financial management.
Investbank took Part in European Money Week
Investbank’s Financial Centre in Veliko Tarnovo welcomed students from the local Professional High School of Economics “Dr. Petar Aladzhov” to acquaint them about banking services and personal finance management. A meeting with students was held also in Svishtov, during which the basics of mobile banking and the correct use of ATMs were demonstrated. In Sofia, experts from the bank visited the social centres “Paisiy Hilendarski” and “Sofroniy Vrachanski” to help children make their first steps in financial literacy. In Vetrino, bank experts conducted a lesson dedicated to financial literacy with students majoring in “Electronic Commerce”.
International Asset Bank Organized a Joint Project with the Educational Platform Ucha.se
The bank organized series of presentations in schools in Bulgaria focusing on interactive training of students, as well as to groups of young people from SOS Children’s Villages. The presentations were also uploaded to the popular educational platform “Ucha.se”. Part of the activities undertaken by International Asset Bank during the European Money Week were Open Days for employees’ children, as well as a partnership with the Atanas Burov Foundation for their Summer School “Modern Banking – Digitalization 2025”.
Municipal Bank Met Held Meetings between Experts and Students
During European Money Week, Municipal Bank held a series of inspiring meetings with students from primary schools and professional high schools in the country with a profile in the fields of finance, trade, economics and business. The bank’s campaign under the slogan “We Invest in Knowledge, We Build the Future!” consisted of meeting between experts from Municipal Bank branches and students from different cities in the country. In the open discussions, young people showed great interest in topics such as how the banking system works, types of banking services, the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, basic principles of personal finance management, digital finance and internet security.
